(By Rachel Joyce)
As Christmas draws closer and we look forward to the celebration of our Lord’s birth, may we experience the joy and blessing of His presence. Isaiah 9:6 foretells the great blessing of the coming Messiah. “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” He has many names, this Savior of ours. Abraham knew Him as Jehovah, the covenant keeping God. Hagar knew Him as El Roi, the God of seeing, the God whose eye was upon her. Isaiah saw Him as the Lord, high and lifted up, the Holy One before Whom seraphim hid their faces as they cried out, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!" John knew Him as the blessed Lamb of God.
We know Him as Savior, but how else have you come to know Him? Is He your comforter when grief overwhelms you? Is He the bearer of your burdens? Have you discovered Him to be the healer of all your inner wounds? Is He your strength in weakness? Do you know Him as your deepest joy?
I pray that this Christmas He will continue to reveal Himself to us in ways that captivate our hearts and fill us with praise. As we gather with family and friends, may His grace govern all our interactions. May our hearts be filled with wonder and awe as we celebrate His birth. I pray that we will experience Him deeply in the days to come. As we learn to let Him meet our needs and satisfy our souls, we will be able to enjoy His presence more and more. May it be so, Lord Jesus.
