(By Rachel Joyce)
Shhh. Can you hear it?
Or does the noise of daily life,
The cacophony of hustling,
Clamoring to be heard,
And to striving to achieve
Drown out His gentle call,
“Come worship Me.”
Don’t overlook His summons.
Breathe in slowly and feel it
Deep within your heart,
An unspoken ache, a restlessness,
A longing for His presence,
A thirst, begging to be slaked
By Living Water.
Long ago in Eden,
Our first parents would hear
The golden, evening call as
Cool breezes and quivering leaves
Signaled God drawing near,
To enjoy their presence and
Receive their worship.
From generation
To generation, His invitation
Has sounded, not like
The rumble of thunder
Or the roaring of fire, but as
A soft, compassionate whisper,
“Come, delight in Me.”
And my heart responds,
“Lord, I am coming! Your glorious
Presence is the light of my life,
Illuminating my path,
Revitalizing my soul, and
Flooding my being with joy,
Unending delight in You.”
“Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of Your presence, LORD” (Psalm 89:15).
