(By Rachel Joyce)
Oh, child of the one true King,
What does your God desire?
What is it that He calls good?
How does He ask you to live?
Act justly. Love mercy. Walk humbly
With your God.
Act justly, child of the Lord.
Mishpâṭ: treat people equitably.
No favoritism, excusing the sins
Of those you like more, withholding
Grace on a whim or a grudge; live out
The justice of your Lord.
Love mercy, oh, beloved one.
Don’t just act with kindness and
Compassion, truly love them.
Delight to treat others with
The grace, the tenderness
You have received.
Walk humbly with your God.
You were never meant to walk
Alone with nose held high.
No. Hand-in-hand with your
Savior, heart-to-heart, humble,
Patient, kind.
This is the path of peace.
This is the way to joy.
Your God desires this
Because this leads to fullness,
Flourishing, fulfillment, and all
God has for you.
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8).
